If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
It amazes me when people oppose the message of their freedom from sin. This text is ALWAYS brought up. Yet they don’t even understand what they are reading. And they also stop reading 1 John and reject the rest. Would you read the first chapter of a book and write a conclusion on it from that first chapter? NO! You would continue reading and draw your conclusion from the ENTIRE book. So why do believers in Jesus stop at the first chapter?????
We ALL have sinned, in Adam. Yet we are ALL justified to life in Jesus. I HAVE sinned in my flesh, the part of me that was born of Adam. I have confessed this to be true, and have been baptized into the death of Jesus Christ, agreeing that my carnal man, that which Adam cursed to sin, HAS been crucified WITH Christ. And that I NOW live by the Spirit of God. I am now living as Spirit and not flesh therefore I am free from the flesh which is hostile towards God. (Romans 6 discusses the true baptism) so I now am able to proceed past 1 John 1 and claim the remaining chapters. I believe every word that proceeds out of God’s mouth, therefore I am free and not a slave to sin. This is available for ALL men through Jesus Christ. Do you believe this?
Many believe as I once did that a life with God will be filled with ups and downs and good days and bad. But is this really true? Many times in scriptures we read that God will lead us to still waters, give us green pastures, protect us from harm, give us living water and the bread of life. He will make our paths straight, and not crooked. This morning I was given two scriptures to back up what I had left on a friends post on Facebook.
Here are the passages.
John 16:33 NASB
These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.
“In Jesus you have peace”
“In the world you have tribulation”
“Jesus has overcome the ‘world'” (hold on to that one for the next one)
1 John 5:18-19 NASB
We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him. We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
“The whole world lies in the power of the evil one” (Jesus has overcome the power of the evil one)
“Those born of God (have His Spirit in them) is kept by God and the evil one “does NOT” touch him”
So it seems to me that God rescues us from trouble of the world, and if we have trouble perhaps we aren’t in God but still in the world? Maybe the next time things are falling out from under us we ought to first ask ourselves am I still living in the world? It is hard to truly die to self and the world, but life with God isn’t hard.
“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me , you who practice lawlessness .’
1 John 3:4 NASB
Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness.
SIN is LAWLESSNESS!
SO I ask (again) are you SURE you want to hold onto the claim that even though you believe in Jesus as your savior, you’re STILL a sinner unable to be free from sin until your body of flesh leaves this earth?
1 John 3:5-10 NASB
You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin. No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him. Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.
