For He who has died is free from sin….

Recently I was told that some fellow believers once gathered together to pray against my belief in my forgiveness of sins, as of today. That I was no longer a sinner but born again and no longer identify ME as my flesh but as one with Christ, as Spirit. As well me having left the teaching of men within the church establishment.

At first this bothered me that I was even told this because it was unnecessary for me to know that because of their unbelief they prayed against me.

But as the days have gone on and I thought of this I’ve always been reminded of the story in Acts, instead of me paraphrasing I’ll just share it.

But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross. He is the one whom God exalted to His right hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.”  But when they heard this, they were cut to the quick and intended to kill them. But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in the Council and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time. And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you propose to do with these men. For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men joined up with him. But he was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing. After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census and drew away some people after him; he too perished, and all those who followed him were scattered. So in the present case, I say to you, stay away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or action is of men, it will be overthrown; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may even be found fighting against God.”

Acts 5:29‭-‬39 NASB

I rejoice always when I see my life reflected within the scriptures. It’s been years since the Holy Spirit has taught me through His Spirit and confirmed with the written Truth that I am indeed FREE and am no longer a slave to sin. And can live my life no longer identifying with the filth of my flesh as who I am.

And one of these who prayed against me had come to know this truth as well. So as it says in Acts “but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may even be fighting against God.”

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Romans 8:14 NASB

We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.

1 John 5:18 NASB

You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin. No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him. Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.

1 John 3:5‭-‬10 NASB

For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin. ⬅⬅⬅⬅

Romans 6:5‭-‬7 NASB

So I ask, have you, your flesh died?

  1. there remains death to self as well death to the body. as we are still in the body, we are capable to sin . sin remains all acts done rebellious in nature against holy commandment, love, for we do not love if we do not keep his holy commandments .
death to the self involves moving from selfish desires to selflessness. death of the body is separation of soul from the physical . we should not confuse the two to make excuses for sin .

    • Question, is it the Spirit within you that sins or the flesh? And if the flesh is that who you claim as your identity? Or is your identity now in Christ? Because according to scripture, those who are born again cannot sin. Therefore although your flesh is and always will be filthy and at war with your NEW self, it is not who you are if you are led by the Spirit and not a slave to your flesh.

      • there remains spirit resolution to commend, and here within IS willful resolve to obey the goodness in holy commandment . we either follow Christ by resolution of body in resolve in spirit, or we make excuses

      • Or we avoid simple questions for fear of admitting we have not been born again and are confused as to our identity. Please show me where the scripture quotes our salvation is based on works of our own and not through belief in what has already been done.

      • I am not in disagreement that the flesh is sinful. But my flesh was crucified on the cross with Christ. I have a new identity which is IN HIM and according to scripture those who are IN HIM CANNOT SIN. I BELIEVE SCRIPTURES OVER WHAT I SEE OR WHAT ANY MAN SHALL SAY.

      • the spirit is attitude, direction of body. the will is resolve in soul . the spirit is not the soul, but a faculty essence of the soul involving the flesh . the spirit is direction; the soul is part of GOD

      • Do you follow scripture? If not then we’re not even speaking the same language. But I do bless you and this conversation. I hope the words written will sit with you as you wrestle what is written.

      • there remains physical frequency of physical body vs. spiritual signature of prayerfulness body, which rises with the soul when we pass to higher glory upon death of the body . frequency physical dies with the physical body; spirit signature in both soul and body rises in Christ upon death .

      • So the Scriptures I posted are wrong? We only become free from sin when the physical body dies?

My friend Jesus freed you at the Cross. Believe He was capable of doing so. You do not need to be a slave to your flesh. You through Christ can take dominion and believe that through Him you can indeed be PERFECT as your Father in Heaven is perfect. Matthew 5:48

      • we have the opportunity to become perfect when we turn to him, completely, each moment . it is never a one time deal . it is the forever moment, each one .

      • we are freed from the bonds of sin when we conscientiously turn from sin to follow Christ .the saint is the one who keeps trying; the sinner is the one in denial, betrayal and rebellion

  2. born of water, spirit . yes . by their fruits you shall know them . faith without works is dead . so if we refuse to amend our sinful lives, Jesus will say “depart from me, you evildoers .” Jesus tells Mary Magdalene “go and sin no more .” faith alone does not save us . we must take up our cross of self denial to follow Him .
I believe maybe we are talking about the same things, just going in circles with them .
“those who are with us are not against us .” we are not to amend our lives in a self
styling, nor are we to remain presumptive that we are saved, without true repentance
with contrition . I’ll not bother you with my belief if it confuses . and as far as offense, only the proud are offended . the humble man remains humble by not noticing or taking offense .
